Race for the Cube: A Sugar Badlands Story
Race for the Cube tells one of many stories of Winnie, a Jawbreaker who travels through wild candy environments to find the rarest, rawest ingredients it has to offer.
In this tale, she searches for the Giga Cube, a large sugar cube hidden in the depths of the Soda Mountains. However as Winnie travels, she is continuously followed and halted by Cottelle, the Cotton Candy Knight. Now she has to find her prize before her meddling rival gets it first.

Winnie: Our Hardheaded Adventurer
Before designing Winnie, she originally wasn't Winnie, but a Lemonhead candy named Lenae who was known for her sour attitude. While I liked her and her design, it didn't feel like a main character who was as hard headed as she was curious. I started looking into other hard candies and Jawbreaker just seemed perfect: a hard candy with many dense layers to make her strong in personality and physicality.
Despite her being a bit curt and stubborn, she has this curious side and adventurous side to her, leading her to take any challenge before her just cause she can.

Cottelle: The Elegant Obstacle
A way I like to describe Cottelle is a very annoying yet graceful rival. Donned with his large hair and a slight hero complex, Cottelle, the Cotton Candy Knight travels through the mountains to halt Winnie whenever he can and get the cube before she can. All while looking as fabulous as possible.
When creating them, I wanted him to be a direct contrast to Winnie in as many ways as possible: being a lighter, more airy candy, elegance, rank and training, and overall demeanor.
Environments
When designing environments for the Sugar Badlands, I wanted to mix candy with the variety of a wilderness. However, I also struggles with not trying to make them overly saturated while also keeping them candy like. Overall, I enjoyed designing these environments and seeing my characters interact with the space.
